Sarah Palin's Keynote Speech at the National Tea Party Convention- Only Continuing to Alienate Voters?
66
Many have said that one thing is very true about Sarah Palin- you either love her, or you hate her. From my personal experience, there isn't much middle ground. But one thing is for sure- in a time when bipartisan politics seems to be failing and things are becoming more divided among party lines, Sarah Palin is not the person to bring people together.
However, bringing people of both parties together doesn't seem to be her aim. While many Conservatives have found themselves more than satisfied with Ms. Palin, Moderates are often turned off and Democrats openly despise the woman. Conservatives have lauded this response as a sign that things are working- after all, they argue, if Democrats are so hot and bothered by Ms. Palin, it must be because they view her as a very strong threat. But is this really true?
This author finds it very likely that Ms. Palin will make a bid for Presidential office in 2012. And in a way, she seems to be the best choice on the Republican side. Already having drawn a great deal of attention from both the media and the public, you would be hard-pressed to find a more well-known candidate. Not all of the publicity is good (in fact, most of it is bad), but as the saying goes- there's no such thing as bad publicity. Republicans certainly seem to be taking this stance.
This author wonders, though, if such a polarizing force is really right for America. After all, we are the United States, not the divided states. Shouldn't a more unifying choice be elected instead?
In Washington, the damage seems to have been done already. Any hope of both major parties working together has been crushed within the last year. Never has the opposition been so blantant, so obvious. If nothing changes, it seems America will be divided into two sides politically- and it will all depend on which side gets more votes.
Sarah Palin certainly seems to have adopted this philosophy, and stopped any pretense of pandering to both sides long ago. It is obvious from her latest speech that Ms. Palin sees two roads ahead, and has chosen the one she will walk. Sharp jabs against everyone from President Obama to those who voted for him decorate her speech- and not in a subtle way. It cannot be denied that Ms. Palin posesses a gift to fire up those in the Conservative Party. But this author wonders if this speech will bring more voters in, or simply drive them away. What do you think?
A few excerpts from Ms. Palin's Keynote speech:
-"Yet again, President Obama found some way to make this all about George Bush"
-"[This is] bigger than some King or Queen of a Tea Party, and it's a lot bigger than some charismatic guy with a teleprompter."
-"To win that war, we need a commander in chief, not a professor of law standing at the lectern"
-"Now, this was all part of that hope and change and transparency. And now a year later, I gotta ask the supporters of all that, how's that hope-y change-y stuff workin' out for ya?
Sarah Palin made quite a few good points in her speech, but it seems they were undermined by these cheap shots at our current President and situation. This voter personally feels that if Ms. Palin would simply drop the insults and stick to the facts, she would meet a lot less resistance from the opposing side.

- Alan Schroeder: Sarah Palin\'s Tea Party Speech: Beneath Her Wrath A Troubling Contradiction Lurks
Sarah Palin's address at the Tea Party convention in Nashville vividly demonstrates why this woman is unlikely to ever become president of the United States: she's too pissed off.
What Do You Think?
Should Ms. Palin continue her current strategy or would it be smarter for her to change her tune?

Seems like you wrote a fair enough article about Ms. Palin here, much more flattering than the one I wrote about how dangerous her religious fanaticism is to the United States and the Separation of Church and State that we must defend at all costs if we are to avoid severe civil and human rights abuses and a return to the Dark Ages of Inquisitions. Sarah Palin is a dangerous person, is NOT a real Christian, and should not be involved in ANY politics in our country.
Thanks for sharing! I am your newest fan, btw! :)
Nice article, cool-headed and thoughtful. She makes me fear for our country's ability to have a reasoned, respectful political conversation. Anger is the LAST reason to make a decision about ANYTHING.
